Description:

Abandoned open-mines on the outskirts of Sevilla became a great basis for creation of a perfect underground spaces. On the bottom of the mines there are reservoirs that supply the community with water that while being non-potable still creates great added value, as it can be utilized in multiple ways (i.e. cleaning, irrigation, fish farming). We started the design process with an assumption that one cavity would serve not only as a living space but also would be self-sufficient with all other necessary functions, containing medical point, education center or other services. Due to irregular shapes, the community could carve or add segments according to their needs, creating various functions, such as trade spots, sport fields, parks, etc. The whole area is served by a couple of vertical communications that gives an opportunity not only to access the outdoor spots, but also in some instances goes directly to the indoor parts (i.e. hospital) where it is needed the most. Apart from that, between the levels footbridges can be found, that ease the commute around the whole place.
